This exquisite piece is inspired by sakuri-doki, an old Japanese work for spring meaning cherry-blossom time. It's simple to stitch and uses metallic thread with stranded cottons. Beads are added instead of French knots to bring a delicate decoration to the design. Lesley pairs this delicate design with a pretty linen band, the likes of which you can find in your local craft store. Stitch count 200 x 37, 14 ¼ x 2 ¾ inches finished. You'll also get instructions for working one of the butterflies on a sweet arched-card. Pull out other individual motifs to create a whole series of greeting cards, a set of coasters, embellished jeans, etc. For more elegant projects that capture the spirit of the Far East, check out Lesley's book, Oriental Cross Stitch.
