A romantic companion piece to Lesley's *Samurai Warrior*, this design depicts a sweetheart, serenely poised and patiently waiting for his return from battle. Typical of the art of the Far East, this picture is rich is symbolism, from her open fan (an auspicious omen for the unfolding of the future) to the lone butterfly, an embodiment of the soul believed to bring luck and protection. Stitch count 211 x 82, 15 x 6 inches finished. Individual motifs from this design, such as the cascading wisteria or the cherry blossom in the woman's hair, could be worked separately for really pretty gifts and cards. For more elegant projects that capture the spirit of the Far East, check out Lesley's book, Oriental Cross Stitch.
